Daniel Farmer

Tuesday, 23 February 2010

Hope you had a great weekend! My new job starts tomorrow so am starting to get a few butterflies... I find those first few weeks in a job so unnerving. Trying to master things like the photocopier, awkward first conversations round the coffee machine, getting lost trying to find the loos, eek! Wish me luck!

Thought I'd post a few of my favourite photographs by Daniel Farmer. Very magical and romantic I think. Quite beautiful.

Le bun

Monday, 22 February 2010

For the first time, I actually have hair that falls past my shoulders (thank goodness for straighteners). The one hairstyle that I have always wanted to try is the bun. Is there any hairstyle more chic?

These photographs have been inspiring my attempts so far (mixed attempts I must say - it's not as effortless as it looks with my hair!!)

This week's best of the street

Friday, 19 February 2010

I got such great news today. After much much searching I have finally landed myself a new job! I can't tell you what relief it is. Looking for jobs has been so stressful. I'm so glad the search is over!

Looking forward to being a little more chilled out this weekend, experimenting with the new sewing machine and hopefully finishing knitting (possibly the world's longest) scarf!

Hope you all have a very lovely weekend.

Why do you have such lovely things in your stores?

I'm trying very hard to be good and to save what little money I have, but you are making this veeeery difficult!

Office space

Wednesday, 17 February 2010

We have our desk squeezed into our bedroom which isn't ideal but I'd still like to make our little work area a little more inspiring.

These photos have caught my eye - especially the first for that wallpaper and chair (Orla Kiely?), wow.

Pressies

Tuesday, 16 February 2010

I am such a lucky girl. I got these wonderful presents from my lovely family for my birthday. Plus mountains of pancakes as we used my birthday as an excuse to celebrate Shrove Tuesday a day early.

Cannot wait to start trying out the new sewing machine - the last time I used one was about ten years ago, and that was on my ancient Singer!

Have already made my way through most of that fudge... No surprise there.

I stumbled across Anna Williams via the consistently great Desire to Inspire and, wow, her portfolio is so inspirational.

I absolutely love that yellow chair in the first picture - and am now yearning to tie up bundles of my towels with ribbons, so pretty!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Friday, 12 February 2010

Hello all. Hope you have a fun-packed weekend - and of course, a lovely Valentine's Day!

I wish I could get more excited about the whole Valentine's thing, but my birthday falls on the following day so (shamefully) I'm usually too busy getting excited about that! This year I really am going to try to be a bit better about the romance thing - maybe bake something chocolatey for the boyfriend. That should keep him happy!

Continuing the food theme, we're heading here on Saturday for an early birthday celebration. I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone - and eating all the diner food, ummm.

RIP Alexander McQueen

Thursday, 11 February 2010

I couldn't quite believe it when I heard that Alexander McQueen had passed away. He was such an amazing talent. It is so sad. He really will be missed xx

Morten Holtum

Wednesday, 10 February 2010

Another of my favourite photographers - this time it's Morten Holtum. I love the way that all his settings have a touch of opulence about them. Against a predominantly neutral background, he mixes in patterns, vintage and an often richness of colour. Wish I could replicate this in our flat!

Hello Tuesday

Tuesday, 9 February 2010

Things making me smile today are...

1. Seeing children's art displayed in the home. Who needs to spend a fortune on art when this looks so good?

2. These French grain sack pillows from Etsy seller, Styled Spaces

3. Bright yellow against white. A burst of sunshine in the home. Just what the Dr ordered for winter.

4. Kate Bosworth in Calvin Klein. Sooo pretty.

6. I'm getting in the Valentine's mood - and hoping for a mug from this collection!

Lace dreams

Monday, 8 February 2010

Hello my lovelies! Hope you had a fun weekend. Mine was veeeery relaxing. Lots of cooking, knitting (still haven't finished my scarf but I do want it to be extra long, so that's my excuse!), catching up with friends and watching good movies (The Devil Wears Prada for about the 100th time and Marathon Man - amazing film, can't believe I hadn't seen it before).

I realised that I'm a bit obsessed with lace at the moment, whether it's in the home or clothing, so I thought it was a good time to do a post. Don't you just love the lace in the door panels? Such an inspired idea.

Why do holidays have to whizz past so quickly?

Friday, 5 February 2010

I'm already missing...

Feeling the sunshine on my face

Leaning precariously over the balcony to see our "sea view"
(he he)

The croissants, oh yes, the croissants

Bright blue skies

Searching for treasures in the local second hand store
(this time I found a bike with basket, a piano and a side board we desperately need for our hallway! Why can't I find these things in London for the same price?!)

Losing track of the number of espressos we would drink in a day

Waking up to the sunlight filtering through the shutters

Long chats with my mum in the evening over glasses of wine, bread and pate

Favourite pretty things

Monday, 1 February 2010

The lovely B from A Pretty Place to Play asked me to write about my all time favourite pretty things.

It was such a fun post to write. A great mood booster!

Click here to read the post - and do check out her blog. She's one of my favourite London bloggers.

I'm off to the South of France for a few days so I'll be back posting as usual from Friday.

Have a great week!
